Read’s Corner

Lots of changes on the products & services we offer.

As new government regulations take effect, we have had to find alternative products to offer that will perform up to expected standards.

PAINT & COATINGS

The most current ruling impacts the paint and coatings products, which in the past have been manufactured with oil base properties. Beginning in 2007 we were no longer able to acquire products that exceeded 350 VOC levels (Volatile Organic Compounds). This level relates to the gases released during the drying process of the product. In light of this, most oil based paints, stains, plus may glues, polyurethanes and adhesives have had to change their formulations to meet the new regulations. We have gone through and updated many product lines that this ruling impacts. Be sure to discuss their new features and application requirements with our staff.

“NO-PHOS” FERTILIZER

We’ve reviewed the current trend towards reducing the use of phosphorus for soils and fertilizers. The state of New Hampshire is encouraging the use of fertilizers containing less than 5% phosphorus. Studies have shown that established lawns and gardens already have adequate levels of the chemical to assist in the growth of grass and vegetables, so by adding more is unnecessary and redundant. Plus, strong demands for phosphorus by the overseas markets are driving the cost daily sky high. With a little shift in products we are migrating more and more items into our inventory that contain “No-Phos”. These are better for the environment and are able to be offered at a lower cost to you.

INSECT & VEGETATION CONTROL • ORGANIC COMPOST

You will also find our organic product offerings have expanded. We will feature more of “The Safer” line of insect control and vegetation control items as well as organic compost choices for your garden and lawn use. As the spring weather arrives, so too should these products begin to fill our display and storage areas.

OPEN SUNDAY MORNINGS

Beginning May 4th we will be returning to our extended schedule of store hours. This will include being Open on Sunday mornings from 9 am to 1 pm. We have been successful at adding some great new members to our staff with wonderful industry knowledge and the desire to assist you all.

RENTAL DEPARTMENT

Unfortunately, we have had to reduce the variety of equipment in our rental department. Due to outside forces, we have had to eliminate many items deemed cost prohibitive. We will retain items such as the pressure washers, deck sanders and carpet cleaners. If you have an interest in any of the many discontinued lawn and garden or commercial items that are for sale, be sure to stop by the service desk to see what’s still available.

Everyday we continually search and explore for new products and services that we might offer. We strongly believe in our commitment to you, by having the items you need, and the knowledge to explain how to use them. We look forward to your next visit and thank you for your business and support.
